With over 20 years of experience in tutoring, Justin’s teaching style is firmly based on the rigorous Oxbridge tutorial system. He is dedicated to tailoring every topic to a student’s specific needs, aiming to inspire them to develop their critical thinking. During his tutorials and lectures, Justin encourages his tutees to question assumptions, evaluate reliability and analyse the strengths and weaknesses of their own arguments.

Justin’s deep understanding of A-level and university exams is significantly strengthened by his current role as an examiner for AQA. Insight into the assessment process is invaluable, in particular when preparing students for important exams. Justin is able to effectively explain the nuances of the grading criteria as well as to analyse common student errors that frequently lead to a loss of marks.

In addition to examination preparation and critical thinking, Justin is dedicated to helping students to improve and refine their academic writing skills.

Academically accomplished, Justin studied History of Art and Architecture at the Univeristy of Oxford and is a qualified teacher in Further and Adult Education. Throughout his career, he has taught in various schools, tutorial colleges, and on the university’s international residential programmes. Justin also lectures for the Arts Society in Britain and Europe, which continually enhances his own understanding of art history and the canon of art in all fields.

Justin's work covers training in effective essay writing, working with visual sources and critical texts, handling examination questions, giving presentations and compiling portfolios for architecture school candidates and Fine Art students. His expertise spans all A-level (and US APP) Art History options and most undergraduate/graduate topics, and the visual arts, Roman history and classical literature options for classical studies.
