Martin – Latin | Greek | Classical Studies | Ancient History | English

Martin Roberts is a distinguished Classicist and educator with over five decades of experience in some of the UK’s leading academic institutions. Educated at Oxford University (Jesus College), Martin holds an MA in Classics and a PGCE in Classics and English. Whilst at Oxford he was awarded several prizes in addition to a Lawrence Exhibition (minor scholarship).

Martin teaches to degree level and for 25 years was Visiting Classics tutor at Harris Manchester College, Oxford where he taught Greek, Latin and Classical Studies to Oxford degree level. Martin has also taught in a number of schools including Bristol Grammar School, New College School, and Winchester House School, where he served as Head of Classics. During his teaching years, in addition to his academic commitments, Martin was involved in other aspects of school life including pastoral care, drama, running the cross-country team, school drama and musical productions.

A versatile scholar, today Martin’s main focus is private tuition. His expertise extends from Common Entrance and GCSE to Oxbridge Scholarship and degree-level instruction in Latin, Greek, Ancient History, and English. In addition to his classroom leadership, he is a seasoned researcher and archivist, recently authoring the history of Winchester House School. 

Martin is dedicated to supporting students of all backgrounds, including those in home-schooling or challenging circumstances, through a bespoke and pastoral approach to education.
