Neurodivergent Teens

Adolescence is a uniquely challenging journey for neurodivergent teens and it’s not surprising that they often struggle to feel comfortable at school. While their experiences are highly individual and many have remarkable strengths, significant hurdles can make academic life difficult. Mainstream education tends to be designed for neurotypical students and many neurodivergent teens feel out of place and as if they don’t fit or belong.

It’s also well know that students with autism struggle with social interaction and will often feel intensely uncomfortable and out of synch with the world around them. Whilst there are practical ways to help students to deal with feelings of overwhelm, isolation, exhaustion and low self-esteem, it can often feel like a slow and challenging journey and finding the right environment that doesn’t feel exhausting or threatening is key to a relaxed and open mind.

Our Approach

At Being Best, nothing is off the table – we believe that talking things through is crucial to helping students to find their “normal” – it’s about recognising what we need to feel comfortable and relaxed and what it takes to drop the mask and be ourselves.

At Being Best we explore these points, we recognise how difficult things can be, and we offer practical and realistic strategies that help neurodivergent students not only to survive, but also to thrive in a neurotypical world.

Focusing on Mental Health

Being Best works with partner counsellors and partner practitioners who specialise in neurodiversity and special educational needs.
